I’ve been craving for meatballs since the beginning of time…. nah! just kidding… but I’ve been craving for meatballs since maybe 6 months ago?? I’ve always made my mom’s recipe, but the other day, while reading Ree‘s I decided to give it a try. Of course, always with a personal addition and touch.
- 15.5 oz (440 gr) Sirloin ground beef
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tbsp very finely chopped onion
- 1 jalapeño chile, no seeds and no veins, finely chopped
- 1/3 tsp salt
- freshly ground pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 2/3 tbsp sugar
- 2/3 tbsp white vinegar
- 2/3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp finely chopped onion
- 3-4 dash Tabasco sauce
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). In a mixing bowl, add ground beef.
Add oats, 2 tbsp onion, sugar, milk, jalapeño, salt and lots and lots of pepper.
Make some meat-balls =) haha and place them on a baking sheet. You can cool them for 5 minutes in the freezer or the refrigerator, or you can just continue.
Place flour in a plate and start rolling the meatballs in there.
Until fully covered.
Heat vegetable oil and start browning meatballs. They don’t need to be fully cooked.
Begin placing them on a baking sheet.
Now, prepare the “BBQ” sauce by adding ketchup, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, 2 tbsp finely chopped onion, and Tabasco sauce.
Stir until fully mixed.
Top each meatball with at least 1 tbsp of the BBQ mix, until you use all of it.
Bake for 45 minutes.
The hubs was AMAZED by the flavor!!! He wanted me to name them so he can identify them among other meatballs…. I named them Cowboy Meatballs, because almost all of it is Ree’s recipe. =)
They were delicious. I served them with some bunny shaped Mac and Cheese from Anne’s.
